CALCULATION ASSUMPTIONS

Standard brick rate: 60 bricks per m² (single skin) with 10mm mortar joints.
Standard block rate: 10 blocks per m² (440 x 215mm unit) with 10mm mortar joints.
Double skin selection doubles material requirements.
Mortar estimations: 1kg sand & 1/6kg cement per brick; 2kg sand & 0.4kg cement per block.
Sand bagging metrics: Bulk Bag (850kg), Mini Bulk (425kg), Small Bag (25kg).
Cement metrics: 25kg bags.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

How many bricks do I need per square metre?

Allow 60 standard bricks per square metre of single skin wall, laid with 10mm mortar joints. A double skin wall needs about 120 bricks per square metre because it is built with two leaves.

How much sand and cement do I need for 1,000 bricks?

Roughly 1 tonne of sand and 170kg of cement — about seven 25kg bags. The calculator converts these quantities into bulk bags, mini bulk bags and small bags for you.

What is the difference between single skin and double skin?

A single skin (half brick) wall is one 100mm-thick leaf, typical of garden walls and outbuildings. A double skin wall is built with two leaves, usually with a cavity between them, and needs twice as many bricks, sand and cement.

How many blocks do I need per square metre?

Ten standard 440 x 215mm blocks per square metre of single skin wall. Choosing double skin doubles the number of blocks and the mortar materials.

Should I add extra bricks for wastage?

Yes. Add 5–10% for breakage and cutting, and a little more if you are matching an existing bond pattern or ordering special shaped bricks.
